![]() The battle Sora, Donald and Goofy have with the Hydra is awesome, with Square Enix managing to actually make a boss fight with the multi-headed monster possible. And just like that, he loses his strength, just like in the movie! Except he didn’t make a deal with Hades for that to happen, it just…happens because he’s very depressed. Or at least, he was, until he discovers that he hadn’t finished off the Hydra, who had gone on to destroy the coliseum and presumably kill its invisible audience. Sora rescues Meg, unwittingly unlocking the Underdrome in the process, then battles Pete, with Hercules coming in to help and again showing why he’s not a normal party member, as he’s pretty much invincible. Sora, Donald and Goofy have a brief skirmish with Demyx before he quickly gives up the Olympus Stone…as he himself noted, the higher-ups in the Organization picked the wrong guy for this job. With all this bad stuff going on, it really makes the situation feel urgent. Oh, and Hercules has to fight the Hydra now. This is also when Hades kidnaps Meg, hoping to use her as bait for Sora, so that he can trick him into unlocking the seal on the Underworld’s own coliseum, the Underdrome. However, it’s been stolen by Demyx of Organization XIII, who was earlier seen fleeing the Underworld after his recon mission went horribly awry. There’s another battle with Cerberus, not as difficult as the one from the first KH but a lot more exciting, and then the trio escapes from the Underworld while Auron disappears for now.Īfter reuniting with Hercules and Phil up top in the coliseum, the trio find that there is an artifact known as the Olympus Stone that can render its users immune from the Underworld’s curse. As it is, the level starts out rather difficult since there’s a curse in the Underworld that weakens the power of heroes and makes Hades invincible. And I am perfectly fine with this, since not only is Auron a badass, but having a full-powered Hercules in the party would render the level too easy. No wonder no-one wants to die.Īuron unexpectedly becomes the world’s guest-star party member, the only Final Fantasy character in the series to be so rather than a Disney one. HADES: Did you forget who you’re talking to? I am the Lord of the Dead!ĪURON: Heh. But unlike Cloud, Auron isn’t playing Hades’ game, which leads to one of the best exchanges in the entire game: At the same time, Hades has accepted help from Pete and his Heartless army representing Maleficent, and has also summoned Final Fantasy X’s Auron from the Underworld’s deepest dungeon in order to kill Hercules. ![]() Geez, whatever happened to:Īnyway, Sora, Donald and Goofy go to ask Hades for Meg, since evidently the Underworld is no place for a lone woman. Her past is a non-issue, she has no development, I don’t recall her saying much funny things, she seems to think that just asking Hades to stop doing something will make him stop, and she ends up getting kidnapped and put in danger, spending the battle literally running around and yelling “Help me!” over and over again. Meg in the original Hercules movie was strong, smart and sassy, but also unhealthily guarded in her emotions due to past heartbreak. While still voiced splendidly by Susan Egan, her character is completely neutered. And here I must bring up my biggest criticism, which would be Meg’s characterization. The trio get tasked by Megara to ask Hades to stop sending so many opponents to face Herc in the coliseum, as “Wonder Boy” is wearing himself out with all the fights, even if he’s unwilling to admit it. ![]() It’s a good way of showing that this will be where the real action is this time around, which is definitely a good thing. The game pulls a brilliant bait and switch by showing the familiar Olympus Coliseum, with Hercules defeating the Rock Titan, at the start of the level…only to then cut to the Underworld, where Sora, Donald and Goofy actually landed. ![]()
